Riva del Garda a living painting

Riva del Garda is situated on the northern shore of Lake Garda. Unlike other lake villages it will give the idea of being in a small city. A feeling evoked by the presence of both small alleys with tiny boutiques and bigger avenues hosting large shops with important brands. Riva is one of the most northern Mediterranean towns, located right below Monte Rocchetta on the west and Monte Baldo on the east. It represents the beginning in which Lake Garda was created, after the glacier melted.

Traveling along the Gardesana, you will know that you have almost reached Riva, when you will find yourself in front of a crescent-shaped rock barrier. This is the huge rock known as Monte Brione which slopes gently into the water forming a natural boundary between Torbole and Riva. If the time allows you to, we recommend that you visit this rock along the amazing Sentiero della Pace: Path of Peace.

The simplest is to go to the lakeside, which stands out from all the others thanks to the elegant balustrade and the Renaissance-style garden. The reflection of the mountains on the water along with this finishing and the many flowers will make you feel part of a painting. A view that inspired illustrious figures like Nietzsche, Kafka and the Mann Brothers.

Outdoor activities

Among the most important attractions of Riva, you will find the panoramic lift able to take you up to Bastione Veneziano in only 2 minutes. Trekking lovers must try to make time (approx. 4 hours) to go to Pregasina. A small hamlet at the beginning of Valle di Ledro that leads up to a natural terrace 907 metres above sea level. A place known as Punta Larici which will blow your mind with its breath-taking view on lake Garda.

Thanks to the presence of the mountains around Riva, the town benefits of a mild climate, also during winter! Unlike other lake villages, it has a continuous breeze which makes you perceive less the humidity in the air during the hot months. At the same time though, the water is colder than that of the towns in the south. Taking a swim here will certainly be a refreshing experience!
