A green oasis just few minutes from Lake Garda
Parco Giardino Sigurtà is the ideal solution if you are staying at Lake Garda and want to escape from the city/touristic chaos.
In this article I will explain you its history and give you some information about what to do at Parco Giardino Sigurtà.
First of all, these 60 hectares, green oasis is located in Valeggio sul Mincio, near Peschiera, Mantova and Verona. Due to the huge dimensions, the park hosts a very rich flora, with grass fields, secular trees and wonderful blooms. In fact, the park has gained a lot of fame thanks to the many flower seasons nearly all year round. One of the most loved seasons is the Tulip season, known as Tulipanomania starting in February. But many visitors also appreciate Roses, Hydrangeas, Water Lilies, Iris and Asters.
To discover its history, we must go back to 1407, when the patrician Gerolamo Nicolò Contarini bought the property with agricultural purposes. From that moment, the property has undergone various changes until the ownership of the Maffei Family in 1616. They were the first to make significant changes which allowed the park to become the ‘artwork’ it is today.
The Maffei family was replaced by Nuvoloni family, that brought the park to another decline, until it was finally saved by the Sigurtà family in 1941. Giuseppe Carlo Sigurtà implemented a redevelopment of the park, starting by adding an excellent irrigation system.
To share the thriving beauty of the property, the park finally opened to the public in 1978 and from that moment it hosts every year thousands of visitors from all over the world!
