Venice is a destination that fascinates tourists from all over the world and even from Italy itself, but its beauty and uniqueness have also become a challenge to manage. The excessive tourism and the environmental impact it causes have prompted local authorities to adopt the Venice Entrance Fee 2025 to protect and preserve the city’s heritage.

How does the entrance fee 2025 to Venice work?

In order to find a new balance between residents, city-users, and visitors, the Municipality of Venice has reintroduced the use of an entry fee. The ticket will work the same as the previous year and must be purchased by those visiting the city for a day (8:30 AM – 4:00 PM) and not staying within the Municipality of Venice.

1. Starting when is the entrance fee 2025 to Venice required?

In 2025, the days on which the entry ticket is required will increase, reaching 54 days from April 18 to July 27, covering all weekends and Fridays, as well as Monday, June 2.

The entrance fee 2025 to Venice will be required ONLY from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. So if you want to take a tour of the city in the evening, you won’t have to buy a ticket.

2. Which areas of Venice do I need an entrance ticket for?

The entrance ticket is necessary only to enter the Ancient City (number 1). Instead, it will not be necessary for people passing through Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto or Stazione Marittima, without access to the Ancient City (number 2). In addition, you will not need to pay an entrance ticket for visiting the smaller islands (number 3), which are:

  • Lido di Venezia (Alberoni and Malamocco, too)
  • Pellestrina
  • Murano
  • Burano
  • Torcello
  • Sant’Erasmo
  • Mazzorbo
  • Mazzorbetto
  • Vignole
  • S. Andrea
  • La Certosa
  • S. Servolo
  • S. Clemente
  • Poveglia

The islands of San Michele and Giudecca, however, are considered within the perimeter of the Ancient City and therefore require the purchase of the entrance ticket.

3. How much do you pay to enter Venice?

For 2025, there will be two different rates for the entry ticket:

  • €5 for those who register on the portal at least 3 days in advance.
  • €10 for those who do not book their visit at least 10 days in advance or who pay on the spot.

Even those exempt from payment, who are not under 14 years old or residents or born in Venice, must register on the portal and declare the reason for their visit.

The payment of the contribution will be valid for the whole day booked. Then, you can exit and return to the city.


4. Who has to pay for the entrance ticket to Venice?

Yes, obviously not everyone must pay the entrance ticket to enter Venice. Let’s see together which categories are exempt and how they must prove it during the checks.

Categories for which no action is required:

  • People born in the City of Venice.
  • Residents of the City of Venice.
  • Children under the age of 14.
  • Holders of the European Disability Card (Disability Card) and their accompanying person.
  • Personnel belonging to the Armed Forces and Police (including Firefighters) entering the Historic City Center for service needs.

For these categories, during the checks it will be simply necessary to show the ID or relevant certification. They are the only categories that do not have to go to the portal to request exemption or to pay.

Non-paying categories that must apply for the annual exemption:

  • Employed and self-employed workers, including commuters, with a stable (even temporary) operational headquarters in the Ancient City or in the other smaller islands of the lagoon.
  • Students, including commuters, of schools of any order and grade and of any university and post-university institution with operational headquarters in the Ancient City or in the other minor islands of the lagoon.
  • Persons who own or timeshare property in the Municipality of Venice on which they pay the IMU, or holder of a lease for non-tourism use and their family unit.
  • Persons residing in the temporary population register.

In these four cases it will be necessary to obtain a continuous annual voucher, without paying the entrance fee.

Non-paying categories that must apply for the daily exemption:

  • Workers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs who must occasionally access the Ancient City of Venice.
  • Students of upper secondary schools on an educational trip. Teachers may apply for worker exemption. On the other hand, those accompanying persons who do not fall into any category will have to pay the entrance fee.
  • People staying overnight in a hotel of the City of Venice. The exemption will be valid from the day of arrival to the day of departure.
  • Residents of the Metropolitan City of Venice.
  • Residents in Veneto
  • Persons with certified disability, and possible companion.
  • Person who practices therapy or who must carry out a medical examination at health facilities in the Ancient City and other minor islands of the City of Venice.
  • Person who assists or accompanies patients to health facilities in the Ancient City and other minor islands of the City of Venice.
  • People who access the Ancient City and other minor islands of the lagoon to participate in sporting competitions recognized by CONI, its Federations, or by Sports Promotion Bodies. The exemption also extends to the group leader.
  • Public administrators and public authorities who travel to the Ancient City and other minor islands of the lagoon for institutional reasons.
  • Volunteers to serve in the Ancient City and other smaller islands of the lagoon, on the occasion of events and/or events organized or sponsored by the City Council, the Metropolitan City of Venice, and the Veneto Region.
  • Volunteers to serve in case of emergency in the Ancient City and other minor islands of Venice.
  • Participants in events organized or sponsored by the Municipal Administration.
  • Belonging to the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement, including the staff of the National Fire Department, which accesses Venice for service needs.
  • Person visiting people in the Ancient City of Venice’s prison.
  • Consort, civilly united, relatives or similar up to the 3rd degree of resident in the Ancient City of the Municipality of Venice or in the smaller islands of the lagoon.
  • Consort, civilly united, relatives or similar up to the 3rd degree of the deceased, participants in the funeral in the Ancient City of the Municipality of Venice or in the smaller islands of the lagoon.
  • Consort, civilly united, relatives or similar up to the 3rd grade visiting subjects housed in social and health facilities located in the Ancient City of the City of Venice or in the smaller islands of the lagoon.
  • Procedural party or witness in proceedings that take place in the courts of the Ancient City of Venice.
  • Person summoned for reasons of justice or other reasons of public interest at public offices located in the Ancient City of Venice.
  • People who access exclusively the areas of the Ponte della Libertà, Piazza Roma, Stazione Marittima, and Isola Nova del Tronchetto, limited to the time that remain there.
  • Persons visiting persons residing in the Ancient City or in the smaller islands or persons registered in the register of temporary population residing in the Ancient City or in the smaller islands.
  • People who must go to the City of Venice to participate in elections or referenda.
  • Any additional access of a temporary nature provided it is not for tourist purposes, authorized by resolution of the City Council.

In all these cases it is necessary to obtain a daily pass without paying the entrance fee.

5. How to obtain the exemption or pay the access fee to Venice?

Excluding residents of Venice, people born in Venice and children under 14 years, all other people entering the Ancient City must book their visit (even those exempt from payment).

But how to book your ticket to enter Venice? Let’s see step by step:

  • Open https://cda.veneziaunica.it/.
  • Select “Paga il contributo d’accesso” (Pay Access Fee).
  • Select the date you want to go to Venice.
  • State the number of adults and children under 14 who will travel with you.
  • Enter the name and surname of all visitors.
  • Enter the email address and phone number of one of the visitors. It will be the data that will be used for sending the tickets and for any recovery or cancellation of the reservation.
  • At this point you will see the summary of your booking. If you wish, you can add a second visit date. Beware, however, that people’s data must always be the same.
  • Accept the terms and conditions and privacy.
  • You will be directed to the payment page, where you can choose between credit card or PayPal.
  • Once the payment has been made, you can download the tickets with the relevant QR Code or choose to send them by email.

The reservation of the entrance ticket to Venice can be cancelled until the day before the visit.

For those who do not have the opportunity to book online, there will be payment points in Piazzale Roma and in the square of the Venice-Santa Lucia station.

6. What penalties will be imposed on those who do not pay the entrance fee to enter Venice?

The Municipal Administration can carry out checks and inspections by authorized personnel in the main access points of the City.

There will be an administrative charge ranging from 50 to 300 euros (to add 10 euros of the access fee). Furthermore, there is the possibility of a criminal complaint to anyone who issues false statements, forges false documents, or makes use of them as specified by the Regulations.” The sums, if not paid, are collected compulsorily according to the current tax legislation.
