Practical information and tips for your visit to Riva del Garda

Plan your stop in Riva del Garda with practical advice from GardaVisit. Here you will find strategic indications on parking, Navigazione Laghi ferry hubs, and logistics for cycle tourism, based on our direct experience in Garda Trentino.

Where is the best place to park in Riva del Garda to reach the center?

The most convenient spot is the Monte Oro Parking, a multi-story indoor facility right next to the pedestrian area. If you are looking for a more economical or free option, we recommend the Old Cemetery Parking (Parcheggio Vecchio Cimitero) on Viale Rovereto, located about a 10-minute walk from the harbor.

Where do the ferries depart from and what are the main destinations?

The main boarding point is located in Piazza Catena, in the heart of the historic center. From here, the Navigazione Laghi ferries depart, connecting Riva to the main towns of Upper Garda, such as Limone sul Garda, Torbole, and Malcesine (very frequent). Longer routes to Desenzano and Peschiera are also available, ideal for a daily mini-cruise on the lake.

Where can I rent a bike and which trails do you recommend?

Riva is a biker's paradise, and the main hub for rentals (including E-bikes) is Viale Rovereto, where the best specialized centers are concentrated. The absolute must-ride trail is the Ponale Path (Sentiero del Ponale), a panoramic road overlooking the lake that is suitable for everyone.

If you are looking for a relaxing stroll instead, you can take the spectacular cycle path connecting Riva del Garda to Torbole, a flat stretch entirely overlooking the water, which you can find described in our [guide to the cycle paths of Lake Garda]. For more expert riders, the area also offers legendary climbs toward Lake Ledro or Mount Tremalzo.

Where can tourist buses park and where are the loading/unloading points?

The passenger loading and unloading point is in Largo Medaglie d’Oro, right next to the center. For long-term parking, coaches must use the Baltera Parking (fairground area). Bus circulation within the historic core is prohibited: follow the signs for the dedicated areas to avoid fines.

Is specific clothing required to visit Riva?

Although Riva is an elegant city, the climate is influenced by constant winds (the Ora and the Pelér). We always recommend dressing in layers: a light jacket is useful even in summer, as the afternoon wind can cool the air quickly. If you plan to walk the Ponale Path or climb up to the Bastione, trekking shoes or sneakers with good grip are highly recommended.
